Thursday Cool Links

Well, it looks like we somehow managed to walk away from the Maker Faire unscathed. Going to the beach afterwards, though, has left us with some residual sunburns to suffer through. Thankfully, we got to return to some local weather that is wet, grey, and generally miserable. But enough of that! On with some neat-o link-os.

Linkbot, Create with Robots on Kickstarter
At the Maker Faire we got to meet the creators behind this spiffy modular-based robotics system, and we are pleased to report that they are Grade A Awesome Dudes. We encourage you to check out their Linkbot project on Kickstarter - we think it's a pretty intriguing system that has a lot of potential.
Sun & Cloud: Self-Generating Energy Digital Camera
This nifty little camera by Superheadz Japan takes videos and pictures, and can be charged from either its solar panel, USB connection, or a hand-crank. Pretty impressive, considering its 3.0MP camera, LCD screen, and 30FPS video capabilities.
DIY Binary Wristwatch
Blogspot user Emanuele documented making his very own binary wristwatch. While the whole build is pretty neat, the use of ribbon cable for a watchband is pretty clever.
Fuel: The World's Smallest Cellphone Charger by Devotec
This tiny, tiny cellphone charger gives you an extra 20-30mins of talk time via micro USB. We're not sure if this is more impressive or adorable.
Become a Three-Star Chef with an Augmented Reality Cooking Simulator
The tech behind this device by the Tokyo Institute of Technology is pretty cool and wildly impressive, and not losing food to cooking mistakes is always a plus. But at the time, there can't be anything more disappointing than creating the perfect meal and not getting to taste it.

We'll be sifting through some of our Make stuff during the weeks ahead, and hope to share some of the best stuff with you. In the mean time, we can't wait for our skin to turn back to normal colours instead of this lovely shade of I-forgot-to-put-on-sunscreen-pink.

BEP Application: Pummer

The following instructions detail how to build a simple pummer using a BC2 (Bicore) BEP (Bicore Experimenter PCB). A pummer is a solar powered self activating LED flasher. The difference between a pummer and a BLFNAR (blinky light for no apparent reason) is that a pummer has a soft turn off, which means that it turns on fast, but slowly fades away.
