As a worthy conclusion for the last workweek on Friday night we attended TechBurlesque show, which was a fundraiser for the upcoming 2014 Make Fashion Gala & Fashion Show. It was hosted by Endeavor Arts Gallery located in the downtown Calgary. In preparation to the show we have donated a bunch of electronics and glowy bits, and that night we got to see them applied to various body, er… costume parts in various ways. The show itself was interspersed with the previews of the artists' projects for MakeFashion 2014, and we are really looking forward to seeing the finished pieces at the Gala on March 1. Wearable technology has been around for a while, and it is great to see an awesome community forming around the enthusiast artists and geeks alike. Well, multidisciplinary approach works for everything else, why not cross technology, wearables and fashion? So here's a few snapshots from the show on our Flickr stream.

Amongst all the mingling conducted we got to catch up with Angela Dale, the maker of Chameleon Cocktail Dress that received so much attention at the MakerFaire Bay Area last year, and looks like it got even more international press coverage after it went to International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas. It was featured in LA Times, NYDailyNews, Online Focus, Westfälische Nachrichten, Südwest Presse (pics 4 and 5). Makes us kinda proud to have applied our knowledge in electronics (and the technique of high heels walking) to this outstanding piece of blinky technology)))

Jeff de Boer on CBC Radio

If you came to the BEAM/WCRG Millennium Games in Calgary last summer, you may have seen Jeff de Boer's lecture on the aesthetic component of robotics. Jeff is a local Calgary artist (recently inducted to the Royal Canadian Order - a huge honor, considering his age), and was interviewed on CBC radio Monday with Shelaugh […]

Sumobot Circuits

We've been having fun playing with the L293D driver chip. It's one of those things to see how much you can make it do by itself (like with any BEAM application!). Grant McKee has been experimenting with some simple additions to the chip to make it (unto itself) a suitable brain for a simple mini-sumo […]
