Solarbotics looking for fun people

...oh, and they also should want to work with us.

We have a few positions open we want to fill with people that have a good sense of humour, have some geek qualities, and can tell the difference between a diode and resistor (or sincerely want to learn!)

Here are the types of
people we're looking for:

  • ubergeek specializing in microcontrollers &
other clever electronics. Atmels, PICs, and Stamps, oh my! Oh, and
discrete electronics experience is always a plus. Want to impress us?
Show off some 'bots & projects. Did I mention the fully-furnished
R&D lab you get to share? Even has Sherline Lathes and Mills to
    better make projects with!

  • Purchaser/Coordinator/Ass't Manager. There's lots
going on here, so we're looking for a person that is comfortable with
tracking inventory, placing POs, and making sure they arrive and get
processed appropriately. In addition, this person will be the
administrative "Left Hand" (the "right-hand" position is already
    taken!).

So if you have a sense of humour (an absolute
necessity - we like to working with people who like coming to work),
don't mind a dog and an occasional after-school child, and want to join
us up here in the Great White North (where it's truly beautiful), drop us a line
with your resume, your contact information, and if applicable, a
link to your website. (Solarbotics/HVW Technologies is a non-smoking workplace)

More about website development

A decent website is a core of a web-centric store like ours. Back in the early days, I hand-coded HTML (yeah, go back to waybackmachine to admire that work), and what you got is what you got. Since then, we rebuilt Solarbotics.com through 3 more iterations of totally refactored hand-coded platforms, and then 2 aborted […]

OpenBeam & Nightmares in China Sour...

We've been a big fan of Openbeam for a long time, and when Terence Tam started producing 3D printers using this material, we were hopeful that this would be a great fit for his operation. Nice material, great engineering - what could go wrong? LOTS. Follow his spiral down the Asian rabbit-hole when his selected […]

Tasty Treats and New Treats, Too

A couple of weeks back we held an open house for Calgary's Protospace group. Many BBQ'd items were consumed, many objects were lazored, and many people seemed to be walking around in a stupor of admiration for all the nifty bits and pieces of equipment we have on hand. We had a good time visiting […]

Strange set of Atmel '328 ICs...

Unlike Sparkfun, who actually manage to find fake Atmel ICs, we just get strange batches. The Atmel ATMega328 is the power behind the Arduino/Freeduino/*duino, and we have to set up a programming system to burn the venerable Arduino Bootloader into these chips. We normally use an AVR STK500 in HVSP (high voltage serial programming) mode, […]
