Sure, it was pretty darn convenient originally to be just the IC, but this unit takes it a step further by absorbing a surface-mount PICAXE-28X2(AXE201, 64MHz operation), voltage regulator, download socket, and reset switch into a tidy 28 pin (0.6") format.
