Monday May 24 is Victoria Day in Canada. We'll be using the old Queen's Birthday as an excuse to twiddle our toes in the grass and watch robots roam free. We'll be back to work Tuesday morning, bright and early!
Well we hate to break it to you, but the PICAXE-40X1 has kicked the bucket. Shuffled off the mortal coil. Wacked, given up the ghost, became living-challenged, croaked, sprouted wings, snuffed out.
"IT'S NOT DEAD! JUST PINING FOR THE FJORDS!"
Well, that's not the case. But is does (did?) have beautiful plumage.
But that's okay - it's now back at the old family farm running around free with all the other discontinued PICAXE chips. It'll be happy there for ever and ever. But what about you, the grieving? Well, you know what they say - two is better than one. In this case, X2 is better than X1. And there's two X2's, so you're getting, like, four times the awesomeness. The replacements have the following new features:
And like I said, it comes in two flavours: the standard PICAXE-40X2 and the PICAXE-40X2 Low Voltage (which runs on 1.8-3.6V). They're available now to be ordered and fill the empty void the ol' 40X1 has left.
In the mean time, we have one last tidbit for you. Remember that certain desktop energy seed lamp made by a certain Jérôme Demers? Well, voting is now open over at the Instructables contest. So if you have youself an account, feel free to go over here and toss yours in for the count. You'll make a certain little Québécois boy very very happy.

It's pretty amazing to see the adoption rate of 3D printers in the last few years, and the kind of creativity they bring out in people. I've seen quite a few variations, particularly while walking through the 3D printer villages at the MakerFaires I've already attended (either as a vendor or just a visitor), but […]
After a long hiatus, our PP3 chisel-tip pogo pins are back! And it looks like they're here to stay, so no more drop-outs in supply. I know that we use them for robotics applications, but there's a lot of people using them for other electronics purposes. Now you can get them reliably, and in quantity, […]
We've been busy little elves at Solarbotics. New to our product listing is a fair number of parts and ICs that have been requested of us. Like what? Wellll...: You always need new chips. Especially when somebody on the BEAM list has made something cool: LM324 Op-amp (happy now, Bruce?) LM393 Dual comparator LM386 Audio […]
