In my recent wanderings in the world of overly-cheerful financial advise, I stumbled upon this budgeting theory that says that to feel comfortable about your moneys, or lack thereof, you gotta be living on your last month's earnings. Let's leave out the question of how anyone would pull it off, and just say that I applied this theory to writing these product posts, so there's a bit of a buffer in case we don't have the time to create something on short notice. So what you're reading right now is, shall we say... Last month's money. MWAHAHA! I wrote it a week ago and, well, here it is… But the product is brand spankin' new. I swear. (In a hypnotizing voice) You beliiiieeeeve meeeeee. But don’t you fall asleep just yet, there's lots of cool stuff:
2.1mm Male/Female Power Adapter jack set $3.50 It's a pain to solder up barrel jacks and plugs, so these screw-terminal based versions are very popular for repurposing DC power supplies to other applications! |

Financial wisdom aside, however you try to relieve yourself from the pressure and need to come up with stuff on the fly, knowing how to improvise is always a good skill to have. And although we try to pad our way to avoid the unexpected (read - surprises), it still comes up (kinda like this product post?!). Aaaand now let's plan what we'll talk about next time…

Because... of things... Solarbotics didn't do a booth or official presence at this year's Bay Area MakerFaire. We opted to do something fun this time, building a custom just-for-the-fair piece of sorta-interactive LED artwork. Yours truly is about to teach a mixed media class and wanted to try making some stamps to enhance my (and my students') collaging experience. Stamps are used to create background patterns and give interest to surface design in 2d mixed media techniques. There is a variety of stamps available both online and in craft […]
Ohhh, we like 3D printers. We're working with the local Protospace to fund-raise for a Makerbot. I want to see one of these Line Follower chassis (especially as some of the parts look particularly familiar!). LOVE open source hardware!
