Friday New Product: Grove Stuff

Solar botics
January 23, 2015

New today is the Grove series from SeeedStudio. What makes Grove different is that is very modular, making quick-prototyping quite rapid. Usually this is an expensive feature. The rule of thumb is "Price, Speed, Quality - pick any two", but Seeed has made the 3 curves match just right. Not only are they a good value, they're well built and really do make prototyping quite quick.

Each of the modules serves one function and plugs into the Arduino-compatible Base Shield (Raspberry Pi shield on the way!) to make prototyping and testing your ideas super easy. We are adding more to the category soon. Here are the first three items:

Grove Base Shield
$14.95
The Grove Base Shield is an amazingly easy way to connect your Arduino to sensors, displays, and actuators.
Grove - I2C Color Sensor
$24.90

I2C Color Sensor based on the TCS3414CS.
Grove - LED Strip Driver (mono and RGB)
$12.40
Use Grove to simplify your project, and in this case, to add LED strip lights. Drives both mono-colour and RGB styles, up to 3A per channel.

Motion Activated Tree Lights

In compliance with the upcoming holidays we decided to contribute to the obligatory dose of Christmas ornamentation in the shape of the well-known coniferous tree. A tabletop freestanding tree with LED strings and a flashing star on top seemed like an easy enough thing to do. We also wanted to add a tech twist to […]

Wednesday Cool Links: Nook Hacking, Kerf...

Hey, looks like we are still being late with the Wednesday cool link posts. Our busy days at the office are filled with fighting the multiple misbehaving lasers (with other lasers), conquering fridges stuffed with food (curtsey of Solarbotics bosses) and withstanding the unexpectedly good weather (or so I've heard…). Today's link collection is random […]
