Cool project

Neil Sandstrom from the BEAM mailing list recently posted a notice about his "ShokHead" circuit built from our tutorial. What makes this project a bit different is that he mounted it on a VPM motor, so it's all self-contained. Here's what he says about it:

Just finished!!! Check it out it is really small!! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/beam/files/Psyclesam/ Uses all smd parts except Main Cap and PDs. Parts 1 x SB VPM vibrating disk motor 2 x SFH203PFA Photodiodes 1 x 74AC240 (SOIC) 2 x .22uF 16 Volt smd cap Miller SE... 1 x Panasonic BP2422 Solar Cell 1 x MN1382-J (smd) 1 x ZN2106G (SOT223) 1 x SB Small 1000uf cap 1 x TMMBAT42 (smd schottky diode) 1 x .22uF 16 Volt smd cap It turns a small amount but it does function well. Maybe a bigger cap like 3300uF in the next one. I temporarily gave up on Fled and Fred heads and opted for the very low part count and easy freeformability of the Solarbotics ShokPhoto Head Circuit. https://www.solarbotics.com/beam/circuits.asp Thanks SB!!!

He's also posted links to the videos of it here.
Due to bandwidth constrictions on his present server, we're mirroring the large video file here.
Nice job, Neil!

New RoboSapien Tech...

Just spotted this little piece on the new "beer-serving" robots coming out from Wow-Wee. I've seen their offices - you may find some Mr. Pibb and Root Beer, but as a rule, the strongest thing you'll find in the R&D fridge are some king-sized Coffee Crisps...

Ardweeny & Strandbeest Make An Exce...

So we've just released a ton of awesome little bundles for our Ardweenys, and you're thinking "Wow, what would I do with all those?". Well friend, why not build a Strandbeest with an Ardweeny for a brain? For those few who aren't familiar with a Strandbeest (or don't know it by name), they are the […]

Los Alamos BEAM Workshop

We're happy to announce that the 2001 Los Alamos BEAM Robotics Workshop is going ahead this May 3 to 6th! After much delay and threats of budget-cuts, funding has finally been secured. Thanks to Joe Vigal and Paul Argo of the Los Alamos National Laboratories for keeping this great event alive for this final year! […]

Closed May 21, New Product Friday

Here in Canada, we think those plucky British monarchs are pretty swell. So swell that to this day we still celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday every year on the Monday before May 25th. The fact that Queen Victoria died waaaay back in 1901 doesn't seem to phase us at all. We're pretty hardcore that way. So […]
