These are thermal, not Infrared cameras, returning temperature data in a tight and tidy bundle that can be plugged into Android, IOS, and other USB devices (like Raspberry-Pi SBCs!).
What use is it? Here's what we've done with it over the last month:
Did thermal house-leakage analysis using on my Android phone.
Successfully diagnose a stuck-open thermostat on my truck (it was taking very long to heat up in our freezing Calgary winter).
Detected a bruise forming on my forearm before it was visible
Diagnose a bad voltage regulator on a motherboard
Count animals in the park across the street
Use some excellentopen-source software to run it on a Rock Pi SBC for in-store demos
And it's small. The basic unit starts at just over $220, and there are models with additional macro-settings, pistol-grip mounts, and advanced software settings.
Presently not on the website yet, but it is available in-store at Active-Tech Calgary.

They've been doing similarly-unique DIY as Solarbotics for a good long time, but they had now found themselves in the position of shuttering their operation to take some lead rolls with Bantam Tools. This meant moving from […]
Word from up the pipe at the Los Alamos National Laboratories is that the 10th Annual BEAM workshop is slated to happen May 2-4, 2002 at the Betty Ehart Center in Los Alamos, New Mexico (same place as the 1999 workshop). Thanks to Joe Vigil (of LANL) who spearheaded the initiative after Paul Argo (the […]

Or just seeing what new stuff we got: Arduino Yun $71.95 Take a wireless router-on-a-chip, and stick an Arduino Leonardo to it - that's the new Arduino YUN! Evil Mad Science The Three Fives Kit $35.00 Take a venerable 555 […]
Here's another bunch of links for your viewing pleasure. Under the current meteorological conditions we wonder who would consider looking at screens, because, you know, real life takes over sometimes, especially when it is so nice outside, at least in our neighborhood. A clock that uses sixty RGB pixels Hey, we made that! Well, almost. This […]
