These are thermal, not Infrared cameras, returning temperature data in a tight and tidy bundle that can be plugged into Android, IOS, and other USB devices (like Raspberry-Pi SBCs!).
What use is it? Here's what we've done with it over the last month:
Did thermal house-leakage analysis using on my Android phone.
Successfully diagnose a stuck-open thermostat on my truck (it was taking very long to heat up in our freezing Calgary winter).
Detected a bruise forming on my forearm before it was visible
Diagnose a bad voltage regulator on a motherboard
Count animals in the park across the street
Use some excellentopen-source software to run it on a Rock Pi SBC for in-store demos
And it's small. The basic unit starts at just over $220, and there are models with additional macro-settings, pistol-grip mounts, and advanced software settings.
Presently not on the website yet, but it is available in-store at Active-Tech Calgary.
Boy, there's work to do on new websites. Link checking, spell checking, image links - all sorts of crap that doesn't have anything to do directly with robots! Even so, we've been able to put up a few new images of Mark Tilden's "Projectorbots" on the Photovores page. Yuck. Must do something about how hard […]
We just received an inventory of PDXBot.04 DVDs that we're selling in part to raise funds for the Portland Area Robotics Society (PARTS). It's a pretty hefty video - over 2 hours long, with many features, including a few cameos of "The Dave and Grant Show" (we were there competing last year). It's a good […]

The Solar Marble Machine is a result of collaboration of Solarbotics with MSRaynsford, whose original design was reworked as a solar-powered […]
Ok, so tomorrow is apparently not a regular Friday, but a good one. I would say, that is a very honest thing to call it, because what else would you call a Friday that is a day off? Sure, it's good. So that's what we are doing on that day - being closed and away, […]
