GM8 Gearmotors win Minisumo!

Dave Hrynkiw
July 29, 2003
Wheee! Well, that business trip to the Robot Society of America 2003 Robot Games and Expo went well! We went out to see what the rest of the hobby robotics community was up to (and to support one of our latest distributors, Hobby Engineering), and we ended up winning mini-sumo with StrongBad the president's (me) […]

Lower gear ratio motors!

Dave Hrynkiw
July 15, 2003
We're happy to announce another variant of gearmotor. Like the GM2/GM3 but with a gear ratio of 143:1, they run approximately 175% the output speed! - these are ideal for applications like minisumos, linefollowers and other wheeled devices. Check the "New Items" listing on the left side for details, or view them directly here: GM8 […]

Yumpin' Yimminy - No SolarSpeeders?!?

July 2, 2003
Due to the unusual circumstance of several large volume orders coming through, SolarSpeeders are sold out! Our apologies - we're working on getting more together ASAP. Hopefully by the end of July.

Yup, I've got a ticket in my hands to be at the Robotics Society of America's Summer Robot Games and Expo. Why? Well, Solarbotics wants to see what other roboticists are up to "out there", so our first stop will be San Francisco July 27th. So if you're in the Fisherman's Wharf area that weekend, […]

Gahh! Man, are these Escap motors popular! We're already sold out of these high gear-reduction versions. We'll have to see what we can do to get more online soon...

Escaps back in stock!

Dave Hrynkiw
June 17, 2003
Well, the last batch of Escap gearmotors went very fast. Let's hope this batch lasts a bit longer! Unlike the last set, this set has a higher reduction ratio of 663:1 instead of 362:1. This means it starts turning 0.46V (!) drawing only 3.3mA (!!) It's a 3V rated motor, but our tests show that […]

Solarbotics WCRG mini-sumo workshop

Dave Hrynkiw
June 12, 2003
The night before WCRG, and all through the office, not a creature was stirring...except two dozen mini-sumo robots - AAAHH! Thanks to Alberta Printed Circuits, we were able to sponsor a mini-sumo workshop to build 24 robots to compete in the next day's Western Canadian Robot Games.

Interesting video...

We're big fans of "Scientific American Frontiers" around here. We were quite surprised to trip over this link of a program called "Games Machines Play". Well worth a view, if you can spare better part of an hour!
