We've churned out another Bicore Experimenter's PCB project: The "Bare Bones PhotoVore". This is an elegant little circuit, which offers the functionality of a basic photovore (with tactiles) all on a very simple circuit.

Ours is solar-powered by a Miller Solarengine, but if you wanted to build one with a battery, your parts count would only be six parts (well, seven if you include a power switch)!

Tech Tip: Micro Terminal Blocks

We use many, many devices with 0.1" spaced holes, which are pretty much an electronics design standard. We're finding these 0.1" space terminal blocks incredibly useful for making solid, secure, yet serviceable connections to the rest of our designs. We'll often reach for a microcontroller board, then reach for a necessary handful of these parts […]

Solar-powered hopping robots? It's been ...

Actually, it's been done, but not this nicely. Those guys at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) have a nice report on their "microglider" project. They do some fine work! Bah. That picture is too small! Let's look at a BIG one! Ooo! And they have more big pictures here! This one is nice - […]

Wednesday Cool Links: Laser Experiments,...

Look! Bird (-shaped bullets) made holes in bird... feathers! Well, not quite, although that would have been awesome too. Actually we were doing some nitrogen-assisted laser tests on various regular, i.e. boring materials, such as plywood and mat board. Then I came across some feathers and here's what it turned out to be: Now that […]

BEP Documentation Update

We've tweaked the documentation for the BEP-MSE1 "Miller Solarengine" to correct a minor error (if you wanted to use the MVSE modification, this is the correct on), and added some circuit specs. Application notes for all the modules are in the works- stay tuned!
