DESCRIPTION
Ribbon cable (often called "IDC Cable") is the stuff you used to find in most older PC computers and electronic equipment. It's designed to mate with "Insulation Displacement Connectors" (hence the "IDC") which are clamped onto the cable and crushed together to make a quick, handy, multi-conductor pin-compatible connector.
