The MicroNova 5V RGB LEDs are intense. In color, in size, in WOW factor. At 198 LEDs per meter (that's ~2 per cm, or 5 per inch), this flexible strip packs more lighting effects per length than any other LED strip!

Description [Hide]

MicroNova is an accurate description of what these LEDs are! Where traditional addressable LEDs come in a "5050" footprint, meaning 5.0 x 5.0square, the MicroNova is only 2.0x2.0mm - less than 1/6 the size.

As these strips are designed to showcase how dense you can make an addressable flexible strip, it's about as narrow as it can be made, just under 3mm wide (0.116"). These can be mounted in spaces less than 3 dimes thick! With these, you can start building your own RGB jewelry, eyeglass accent and model train lighting.

Features:

  • How dense are these? 198 per meter means:
    • 60 per foot, or
    • 5 per inch, or
    • 1.98 per cm
  • Super tiny and super dense
  • APA102 communication protocol (separate clock/data lines)
  • 3M Adhesive backing

Specifications:

  • Model APA-102-2020
  • Working Voltage: 5VDC
  • Current Consumption: 20mA per LED @ full brightness [White] (3.96A per meter)
  • LED QTY: 198/M
  • PCB Color: Black
  • Color Resolution: 8 bit / color (256 levels)
  • Brightness Adjustment: 5 bit (32 levels)
  • Emitter Color: GRB (Green/Red/Blue)
  • 4-Pin Female Connector: VCC(red), Data(green), Clock(blue), Ground(black)
  • Strip Dimensions: (LxWxH) 1.00m x 2.95mm x 1.30mm (3.3' x 0.116" x 0.051" tall)

Note: Because these strips showcase how narrow and dense the LEDs can be mounted, there are electrical limitations regarding power distribution. At 100% brightness RGB (white), the voltage drop from the narrow traces made the color shift after the first 0.3M. Due to small size, it is quite difficult to inject power at multiple points in the strip to maintain full power capability, so we do not recomment operating these strips with expectation of full-strip, full-white, full-power operation. Our experiments suggest a maximum full-length white at 100/256 (39%) brightness @ 5V.
