It looks like an SD card.... it smells like an SD card.... but it certainly tastes much, MUCH better! Connect your project via wifi to the internet with the powerful, configurable, programmable Electric Imp.

Description [Hide]

Funky name, familiar package, different function - that's an Electric Imp.

It's hard to believe, but these guys have managed to wedge an 892.11b/g/n wifi radio, decent antenna, Cortex-M3 and I/O management into an SD card package. Really. You are actually able to use 6 configurable I/O lines to the microcontroller, including:

  • PWM clocking (to each pin!)
  • 3 UARTS
  • 2 SPI channels
  • 2 I2C channels (master or slave)
  • 2 Digital-to-analog converters
  • A pulse counter
  • A wake-from-sleep monitor

Then you communicate to it wirelessly over your wifi network. Crazy.

And not only is it wifi-communcated, it's Cloud-connected and browser-programmed in a C-like object-oriented language called Squirrel.

So, NO, it isn't something you plug into your DSLR camera, or MP3-player and expect to make it internet-friendly. What it is, is a tight'n'tidy, powerful, Internet-cloud connector for you project that just happens to be in the shape of an SD card!
