The original BASIC Stamp 1 Module is still a practical and versatile microcontroller for all kinds of embedded projects.

Description [Hide]

The original BASIC Stamp! It's amazing what you can accomplish with this well-proven microcontroller. The processor runs at 4MHz which helps make the module very efficient in terms of current draw and source/sink. The program execution speed is ~2,000 instructions/second and the RAM size is 16 bytes (2 I/O, 14 variable).

Even though the BS1 was the initial offering from Parallax, it has been surpassed by the very popular BS2. If you're new to programming Basic Stamps, we recommend starting with the BS2-IC, and then come back to the BS1 if it suits your needs (they are less expensive). It is the many, many books and online resources that are available for the BS2-series that make them a better starting point.

What makes the BS1 different from the BS2 series is that:

  • The BS1-IC is often an ideal fit for applications that don't require the cost, speed and memory capabilities of the 24-pin BASIC Stamp 2 series.
  • The BS1-IC is a very tight microcontroller that can fit in very small spaces (1.4"x0.6"x0.1").
  • The BS1-IC is programmed via the PC's Parallel port, or via the serial port only with the BS1 Serial Adapter (sold separately)
