Sometimes it would be very nice to be able to add connectivity to your Arduino/Freeduino project. The Adafruit Ethernet shield kit lets you add network connectivity!

Description [Hide]

Ethernet connectivity! That's what the world is coming to isn't it? Connector your Arduino or Freeduino SB to the Internet. Have it send SMS notices or e-mail. Scrape data from a website. Measure the weather and post it to your website. Ummmm... Watch your online calendar and automatically order flowers for your significant other. Order a pizza at when it detects your car coming into the garage. You decide!

When you have your Arduino or Freeduino as be connected to the Internet. You have opened up yourself to a wider new world of possibilities for what you can use your microcontroller with.

The Adafruit Ethernet shield lets you connect it to a variety of ethernet modules, like the Xport or XPort direct (+), or WIZnet module (sorry, WiPort/Matchport/Rabbit modules not compatible).

For you bullet point eager people, here's a list of its capabilities:

  • Interfaceable with XPort, XPort Direct, XPort Direct+ or WIZnet 811MJ
  • 100% compatible with official Arduino libraries (when used with WIZnet module)
  • On board 3.3V 250mA power supply for module powering.
  • Reset button pass-through and six pin ISP header for easy prototyping.
Note: Ethernet module not included

(Also note picture above shows it mounted with the Arduino with module, JUST FOR REPRESENTATION. This kit does not come with module or Freeduino)
